Savoir Faire Literary/Art Magazine
Savoir Faire is a literary and visual art magazine published each spring and features original art, photographs, poetry, short stories, essays, and plays submitted by BPCC students. All contributions are welcomed.
Selections are made by a committee comprised of faculty and staff. All students whose work appears in the magazine will be honored at an evening gala towards the end of the spring semester. One winner will be selected from each of the visual art and literary art categories. The selected winners will receive a prize package worth $150!
Savoir Faire has received various awards for their accomplishments. The magazine has been awarded First Place and Best Overall Magazine in the 2019 Literary & Visual Arts Magazine Competition – All Regions, Small Colleges Division hosted by The Community College Humanities Association as well as Second Place in the 2017 Southern Region, Small Colleges Division and First Place in 2016 Southern Region, Small Colleges Division.
Submissions may be made throughout the academic year to savoirfaire@bpcc.edu. All submissions must properly completed as requested (see below). Any submissions that neglect to follow these guidelines will be disqualified.
- All entries will go through a blind submission process and will be chosen by a jury. You will be notified by email if your submission(s) have been accepted.
- You are allowed five entries maximum per academic year.
- You must submit your submission information and files with your BPCC email (Microsoft Word document for literary, .jpeg files for visual images). Submissions sent from Non-BPCC affiliated emails will automatically disqualify the entry, so please be sure to use your BPCC email as your primary method of contact.
- For writers – If you do not turn in an electronic entry, the piece will be disqualified. We will not type up your work for you. If spacing or formatting is important for your literary piece, please indicate this in your submission email.
- For artists – If your work is chosen, parts of your piece may be used to enhance the graphic design of the entire magazine. You may also be asked to produce a physical copy of the work to display for the magazine reveal gala in the Donna Service Art Gallery on campus. Please check your BPCC e-mail frequently after the deadline so you do not miss out on any announcements.
- If your piece is chosen for the magazine, it will automatically qualify for any possible contests that we apply to through the Associated Collegiate Press and proper credit or awards will be given to you for the work that you have done.

Visual Art entries that need to be photographed – You may leave the artwork with John Wagoner in G-113 who will take pictures of your work. Once the artwork has been photographed, you will be notified to pick up your work. Any original works left with the advisor will be discarded one month after the semester they were submitted. Please write your full name and contact information (in print) on the back of the artwork so it can be returned to you. Artworks left without names will be discarded and disqualified.
Alternative submission process: If the file sizes of your image(s) are too big for the BPCC email attachment system, you can visit Mr. Wagoner during his listed office hours in the Liberal Arts department (Building G, room 113) and bring a flash drive with your properly labeled images. Once the files have been copied over, Mr. Wagoner will return the flash drive back to you. You are still required to email a submission entry.
