Bossier Parish Community College mourns the loss of Coach Billy Montgomery, a lifelong educator, coach, and public servant whose vision and leadership left an indelible mark on our institution and the broader Bossier community. Known for his passion for education and deep commitment to public service, Coach Montgomery played a pivotal role in shaping the future of BPCC.

While serving as State Representative for District 9 in the Louisiana House of Representatives, Coach Montgomery boldly advocated for the College’s growth. His determination led to a conversation with then-Governor Mike Foster that resulted in $60 million in funding to build BPCC’s current Bossier City campus—a transformational milestone in the College’s history. He also helped secure additional funds to purchase land that now provides essential parking space, supporting the expansion of student access and campus development.

In recognition of his extraordinary contributions, BPCC dedicated its gymnasium in his honor in November 2018. The Coach Billy Montgomery Gymnasium stands as a daily reminder of his dedication to education, community, and opportunity. His legacy lives on in the experiences of the students who learn here, the faculty and staff who serve them, and the College’s continued mission to empower future generations.

Statement from BPCC Chancellor Dr. Rick Bateman, Jr.:
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of Coach Billy Montgomery, a steadfast advocate for education and a treasured member of our college family. As a former legislator and longtime member of the BPCC Foundation Board of Directors, Coach brought vision, integrity, and heart to everything he did. His leadership helped shape the College we know today, and his enduring legacy is reflected in the countless lives he touched and the strong, vibrant institution he helped build.”
