Bossier Parish Community College (BPCC) is excited to host a “Golden Lens: How to Curate Your Submissions” workshop on Tuesday, January 14, from 9am to 1pm in the Stephen W. Slaughter Theatre, Building C on the Bossier campus, located at 6220 East Texas Street in Bossier City.
The workshop will feature Ben Hickey, executive director of CEPA Gallery in Buffalo, N.Y., and one of the nation’s leading curators. Hickey will share insights into the submission process for competitions, exhibits, and residencies, offering strategies for photographers and artists to stand out in a competitive field.
“Prize Foundation's Golden Lens elevates photographers, and I’m excited to be involved,” Hickey said. “The Prize Foundation fosters collaboration in the arts, and I look forward to sharing my expertise with participants.”
Hickey brings a wealth of experience, with more than 100 exhibition credits and collaborations with renowned artists such as Dawoud Bey, Sonya Clark, and Letitia Huckaby. Before leading CEPA Gallery, he served as curator of exhibitions at the Hilliard Art Museum in Lafayette, La., where he developed innovative projects integrating social history and interdisciplinary approaches.
This dynamic event also includes an interactive discussion and portfolio review sessions with Hickey and two other esteemed experts, Frank Hamrick, professor at Louisiana Tech University, and Jennifer Robison, assistant professor at BPCC.
Workshop Schedule
9am - 10:30am: Talk and Discussion
- Hickey will present tips for successful submissions.
- A panel discussion featuring Hamrick and Robison will follow, offering diverse perspectives on curatorial expectations.
10:30am - 1pm: Portfolio Reviews
- Participants will have the chance to receive personalized feedback on their work from Hickey, Hamrick, and Robison.

Cast your vote at the Golden Lens 2025 Photography Exhibition on Tuesday, January 14, at the Remington Garage, located at 211 Market Street in Shreveport, to help decide who wins the coveted Golden Lens People’s Choice Award!
During the Golden Lens Photography Exhibition, attendees will have the opportunity to cast their votes for the People’s Choice Award. Before the event concludes, one photograph will be awarded with the $1,000 Jurors’ Award for First Place and the $500 People's Choice winning photograph will be announced. Voting begins at 6pm and ends at 7pm and can only be done in person.
The Golden Lens Exhibition consists of photographs taken during Prize Fest season, in October 2024, and selected by a jury panel of experts. Sponsored by the BPCC Foundation, this exciting photography competition invites photographers of all levels, from beginners to professionals, to capture the unique essence of Shreveport and Bossier City.
