The MJ Foster Promise Program is taking applications for financial assistance to eligible students who enroll at a two-year public college or university, to pursue an associate degree or postsecondary credential for certain high-demand, high-wage occupations aligned with Louisiana’s workforce priorities.
The Louisiana Office of Student Financial Assistance (LOSFA) has partnered with Bossier Parish Community College among other colleges to provide assistance for students in five growing industry sectors; Construction, Healthcare, Information Technology, Manufacturing, and Transportation & Logistics earn industry credentials in several high-value, short-term career fields. This program is open to all Louisiana residents age 21 and over who meet certain eligibility requirements.
Funds will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, and will serve as a “last dollar” award (non-refund generating). Funds will be distributed to approved students starting July 1st.
On the importance of the program, BPCC Executive Director of Enrollment Management, Dr. Teresa A. Jones states, “We look forward to extending this funding opportunity to adult students who may not qualify for any or enough financial aid to begin or return to college to realize their dream of earning a college credential.”
Preston Langley, BPCC Director for Strategic Enrollment Initiatives further comments, stating that this program is exciting for Louisiana residents, because it provides another avenue for students to earn an education that places them in several Louisiana industries that are growing in demand, and in earning potential.
“BPCC is proud to partner with LOSFA to administer this program and help remove financial barriers for students to help prepare them for high-value careers where they can earn close to six figures with only two years of education,” Langley said.
