Bossier Parish Community College spring 2020 nursing graduates achieved a 100 percent first-time pass rate on the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN).
Spring semester students faced many challenges due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nursing students, in particular, had their classes moved online in the middle of their last semester, did much of third level by simulation, and could not take their NCLEX licensure exam for two months because testing centers were closed.
Carolyn Burroughs, Dean of Science, Nursing & Allied Health, is extremely pleased with the 2020 test outcome.
“We are so excited and proud of these students. When faced with obstacles in both their education and personal life, they persevered, demonstrated flexibility and commitment to meet their goal. This is a special class of graduates who are prepared to join the front ranks of healthcare. Additionally, the BPCC nursing faculty did an incredible job of keeping the students moving forward and focused during a really tough time,” Burroughs said.
Chancellor Dr. Rick Bateman, Jr. shared in the excitement of the news, attributing the nursing program's success to a lot of hard work and dedication by students, faculty and staff.
“To have a first-time perfect pass rate in the middle of a pandemic is remarkable,” Bateman said. “While we had to finish the spring semester using online and other remote learning solutions, our students worked hard under extraordinary conditions and never gave up. We couldn’t be more proud of them and our faculty members who went above and beyond to help them finish strong.”
