The Bossier Parish Community College Theatre Program and the Cavalier Players announce the opening show of its 2019-2020 season – Urinetown (The Musical). Nominated for 10 Tony Awards and winner of three, including “Best Original Musical Score,” Urinetown is a fast-paced musical satire of politics and social responsibility. With book and lyrics by Gregory Kotus and Music and Lyrics by Mark Hollmann, Urinetown also parodies musicals such as The Threepenny Opera, The Cradle Will Rock, Les Miserable, and musical theatre itself.
Performances are set for 7:30 pm October 10, 11, 12, 17, 18, 19 and 2:00 pm on October 13 and 20 in the Stephen W. Slaughter Theatre in Building C on the BPCC campus, 6220 East Texas Street, Bossier City, LA.
Dean of Communication and Performing Arts Dr. Ray Scott Crawford directs the Cavalier Players’ production of Urinetown (The Musical). In a futuristic town, a 20-year drought has led to a government-enforced ban on private toilets. The citizens must use public amenities, regulated by a single malevolent company that profits by charging admission for one of humanity’s most basic needs. If the poor don’t obey the strict laws prohibiting free urination, they’ll be sent to the dreaded and mysterious “Urinetown.” Believe it or not, this show is a comedy. The town revolts against the practice in a musical that spoofs musical comedy – and musical drama.
In addition to Crawford providing production and musical direction for this performance, Laura Beeman Nugent is the choreographer, David White is the scenic designer, Rona Leber is the costume designer, and Keith Bruce is the lighting designer. Chloe’ Johnson will stage-manage the production.
The cast includes Jeroen Kales as Bobby Strong; Cason Smith as Caldwell B. Cladwell; Tsolomon Price as Dr. Billeaux; Annie Barker as Hope Cladwell; Dillon Dixon at Hot Blades Harry; Dustin Folse as Joseph “Old Man” Strong; Hallie Horn as Josephine “Ma” Strong; Taylor Brown as Little Becky Two-Shoes; Kelsi Canada Little Sally; Myeleke Saimon as Mr. McQueen; Shaundarius Hardman as Officer Barrel; Mikah Thomas as Officer Lockstock; Maclicia Owens as Penelope Pennywise; Arden Stone as Senator Fipp; Tomiya Washington as Soupy Sue; Trey Gay as Tiny Tom. The cast is rounded out by ensemble members John Stewart, Kaitlyn Polansky, Bianca Anderson, and Avery Colle.
