Bossier Parish Community College has been designated a Purple Heart Community College for its demonstrated commitment to the military veteran community, especially those wounded in battle.
The National Order of the Purple Heart, USA awards this designation to colleges who respect the significance of the Purple Heart Medal as the oldest military decoration in use today and those colleges who acknowledge the sacrifices this prestigious honor entails. BPCC would like to recognize their students, faculty, and staff who are recipients of this military honor and also acknowledge those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.
BPCC Chancellor Dr. Rick Bateman, Jr. signed the proclamation Feb. 19, 2020, making the designation official. The college is now nationally recognized and documented as a Purple Heart Community College through National Order of the Purple Heart, USA. BPCC is honored to be awarded this distinction as they continue to support the military community and their families.
“Signing this proclamation is a true testament to the BPCC campus. It shows our continuous efforts to bring awareness to the sacrifices and bravery portrayed by our many service men and women,” said Susan Stakes, BPCC’s Veterans Resource Center Program Manager.
The Purple Heart is the nation’s oldest military award, introduced as the “Badge of Military Merit” by Gen. George Washington in 1782. Because of its distinct color and unusual shape, the Purple Heart is the most recognized military decoration to date.
