Inoperable Elevators

Bossier Parish Community College is committed to providing educational access to all students. In the event an elevator in one of the campus buildings becomes inoperable and the student cannot utilize the stairwells, causing the student to miss a scheduled class, the following procedure will be implemented:

During Regular Hours of Operation

• Students should report the inoperable elevator to an Administrative Assistant or Dean who is in charge of the class in the building in which the elevator is inoperable.
• The Administrative Assistant or Dean will contact Plant Maintenance.
• The student will contact the faculty member for the class the student missed, and the faculty member will make reasonable accommodations in order to arrange to provide the necessary instruction and materials to the student.*

During Evening Hours

• Students should report the inoperable elevator to the BPCC Security Office, 318-678-6318.
• Security will contact Plant Maintenance.
• The student will contact the faculty member for the class the student missed, and the faculty member will make reasonable accommodations in order to arrange to provide the necessary instruction and materials to the student.*

*Plant Maintenance keeps a log of all maintenance on elevators. If verification is needed that a student’s absence is caused by an inoperable elevator, the Dean, Administrative Assistant or faculty member can contact Plant Maintenance for this verification.
