After a sensational sophomore season in which she led the NJCAA’s Division I in home runs with 38, Bossier Parish Community College infielder Chelsea Fagan was named a First-Team All-American today by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
“We are all proud and thrilled for Chelsea,” said BPCC head coach Amanda Nordberg-Hamilton. “She’s an incredible talent and an wonderful young lady. It’s a tremendous honor for her, one that’s well deserved and something she’ll carry with her the rest of her career.”
Fagan, who was the Region XIV Player-of-the-Year, batted .454 and drove in 86 runs for the Lady Cavaliers this season. The Bastrop High School product, helped lead BPCC to a school record 44 wins and a share of the conference’s regular season title. Fagan, who was a catcher throughout her freshman campaign in 2017, made the transition to third base this season. She led the team in total chances with 209 and assists with 40. She finished the season with a .938 fielding percentage.
Elisa Favela, a sophomore from Ewa Beach, Hi., was a Second-Team All-American selection as the designated player. She led the Lady Cavs with a .478 batting average and in hits with 88. She hit 19 home runs and drove in 73 runs, while posting a 17-7 record with a 2.01 earned run average in the circle. This season Favela struck out 162 batter in 153.1 innings. She finished her career with a school-record 309 strikeouts.
Both Fagan and Favela were also named to the NFCA’s All-Midwest Region First-Team
After batting .423 with a team-high 19 doubles, sophomore outfielder Jayleen Lantier was selected to the Midwest Region Second-Team. The Sulphur, La. native, also hit two triples and two home runs. A stalwart in left field for the Lady Cavs, Lantier made just two errors in 104 chances, finishing with a .981 fielding percentage.
“I can’t begin to explain how proud I am of these three young ladies,” said Nordberg-Hamilton. “They were part of a group of eight sophomores, my first recruiting class, which have rewritten the record books and elevated BPCC Softball to among the top junior college programs in the country.”
Fagan has signed a National Letter of Intent with Southern Arkansas University, while Favela will continue her career at the University of Hawaii. Lantier has decided to attend McNeese State University and pursue a degree in elementary education.
