BPCC HOSTS TWO ARTWORK EXHIBITS ON CAMPUS

Bossier Parish Community College has two art exhibits currently on display on the BPCC campus. In the Donna Service Gallery (Building A), our very own Liberal Arts instructor Lily Thompson’s art exhibit “Biological Indoctrination” is on display now through October 10, and in the Learning Commons/Library (Building A), artist Ellen Soffer’s exhibit, “Some Are Poems,” is on display now through January 11, 2019.

Thompson has been a Fine Arts instructor at BPCC for 3 years. She attended Centenary College and received a degree in both Sociology and Fine Art, and has a master’s degree in Fine Art from Northwestern State University.

A Student Reception is set for Thompson from 11:30am to 1:00 pm Wednesday, September 12 in the Donna Service Gallery, and a Family and Friends Reception will be held from 4:30pm-6:30pm on Thursday, September 20 in the Gallery.

Soffer has a bachelor of fine arts with honors from Philadelphia College of Art and a master of fine arts from the Art Institute of Chicago. A public reception for Soffer will be held from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm on Wednesday, October 10 in the Learning Commons.

The Donna Service Gallery at Bossier Parish Community College is named in honor of Service, a professional artist and former art instructor at the College. The gallery displays up to six exhibitions, annually, focusing on works by both professional artists and students. While at BPCC, Ms. Service encouraged her students to interact with the broader art scene in Shreveport-Bossier by involving them in projects throughout the region. Her legacy continues with the activities of the gallery, and while she is no longer with us, she is widely remembered as an inspiration to her colleagues and students, alike.
