The Music Program at Bossier Parish Community College will host the Grambling State University Choir as part of BPCC Student Life’s Diversity and Awareness Black History Month Series. The concert will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, February 8 in the Stephen W. Slaughter Performing Arts Theatre (Building C) on the BPCC campus, 6220 E. Texas St., Bossier City, LA. This concert is free and open to the public.
The Grambling State University Choir’s concert will include selections by Moses Hogan; “Here’s One” by Williams Grant Still; “Somebody’s Knockin’ at Yo’ Do’” by Stacey V. Gibbs; various solo spirituals and African American Art Songs; and selections from the Broadway musical “The Color Purple.” The choir is directed by Natorshau M. Davis, Assistant Professor of Vocal Music and Choral Director at Grambling State University.
Grambling State University Choir was created in 1947 and was the first music ensemble to be created at the college.
“The BPCC Music Department is proud to be a part of the Black History month celebration,” says Dr. Gulya Chandler, BPCC Music Program Director. “We hope to grow the collaboration between the BPCC and GSU music departments in the future.”
