Dr. Jim Henderson assumed the position of Chancellor of Bossier Parish Community College on July 1, 2009.
Prior to his appointment, Henderson joined the Louisiana Community and Technical College System as Senior Vice President for Workforce and Economic Development in 2005, where he was responsible for shaping the purpose and direction of the system's workforce development efforts. He provided strategic focus for the customized training and corporate services of the system's seven community colleges, two technical community colleges, and the statewide Louisiana Technical College (38 campuses). In 2006, his responsibilities increased to include operational oversight of the restructured Louisiana Technical College. In 2007, he assumed responsibility for the administration of the Carl Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Program, creating a seamless integration of workforce training and technical education within LCTCS.
Prior to his position at LCTCS, Henderson worked with the Louisiana Department of Labor as the Director of the Incumbent Worker Training Program. Preceding that position, he spent 10 years in executive level management roles in the private sector. Henderson has helped shape state workforce and education policy, serving as a member of the Louisiana Occupational Forecasting Conference, the state apprenticeship council, and the HealthWorks Commission. He has also served as a member of the Louisiana Workforce Commission, the Small Business Entrepreneurship Commission, the Louisiana Recovery Authority Workforce Recovery Committee, and Governor Jindal's Workforce and Economic Development Transition Advisory Committee.
A native of Shreveport, Henderson has a bachelor's degree in journalism and English from Northwestern State University, a Master of Science in Administration degree from the University of West Florida in Human Performance Technology, and a Doctor of Management degree from the University of Maryland University College. He and his wife Tonia have three children, Reagan, Nicholas, and Alexander.
