Peer and professional tutors are available to assist you in a better understanding of your course work. They will help you, but their ultimate goal is to help you learn how to be a better learner, so you can become a successful student. This is a FREE service and an appointment is not necessary. A tutor is waiting just for you in Building A, Room 248.
Remember to have your ID ready when entering and exiting TLC. This helps our staff to sign in and out quickly. We also ask that not use your cell phone or consume any kind of food or drink. This ensures that we keep our area clean and keep the noise level from the disturbing others.
First, have all your materials (including your textbook, assignment instructions, and notes from class or sample problems). This will give both you and the tutor the information you need to start the session.
Next, the tutor will review a sample problem with you or part of a writing assignment. After they have explained this concept, they may leave you alone to work independently and come back soon to make sure you are comfortable to move on to the next question you may have. They will not be able to work through an entire assignment with you. A tutor is meant to clarify the concept and help you strengthen your understanding so that you will be able to find the correct answer on your own.
Remember, tutors only offer suggestions. These suggestions are not intended to replace what your instructor has asked of you. Always ask your instructor for clarification if you are unsure of something that is tutor reviewed with you.
