Specific certificate information:

In the certificate program, students study drafting in one area chosen from architectural, structural, electric, manufacturing, civil/map, and piping. CAD technicians use computer-based systems to produce or revise technical illustrations needed in the design and development of machines, products, buildings, manufacturing processes, and other work. The drafter puts the designer's concept into technical illustrations, which can then be read by the people who actually produce the product.

Specific associate degree information:

BPCC's survey of the Shreveport/Bossier area confirms the need for computer drafters in the local job market. CADD operators need to have a broad understanding of engineering graphics, print reading and sketching, computer drafting fundamentals, advanced computer drafting operations and customizing skills. BPCC’s courses are designed to provide a strong foundation in these areas.

Students wishing to earn an associate degree in the field of Computer Drafting and Design can major in the Associate of General Studies (Non-prescriptive Course of Study) with the following approved electives:

Students must check with their advisor about the Associate of General Studies (Non-prescriptive Course of Study) and the computer drafting and design courses.
