Live Television Programming

The Bossier Parish community College Division of Communications and Performing Arts Division through an agreement with SuddenLink owns cable channel KCAV-TV, a Public, Education, and Government (PEG) channel on the local cable system. On this channel CaPA produces live and prerecorded television programming. These programs include a live news show (BPCC News), a children’s show (Homework Hangout), and a movie review show (The Picture Show) among others.

Homework Hangout

Homework Hangout began February 14, 1990 and was formerly known as Homework Hotline. Homework Hotline began as a way for latch-key students to have an opportunity to get their homework problems solved by a qualified teacher. Students were able to call in with their homework problems and work them out with the teacher live on TV.

Today Homework Hangout functions as a way for kids to unwind before getting started on their homework. BPCC Division of Communication and Performing Arts (CaPA) invites elementary-age students from Bossier Parish Schools to participate on set. Each school spends a week with the Homework Hangout crew.

BPCC students handle the complete production of the show, from script-writing to manning the equipment on set. Homework Hangout airs Monday – Thursday at 4:00 p.m.

BPCC Daily

BPCC Daily is the CaPA Division’s live news television show. This show is completely produced by our Communications Media scholarship students. They function as the anchors and production team. The show runs on SuddenLink cable channel 12 on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 12:30-1:00 p.m.

Other Live programming

Our live production class also produces a show called This is BPCC. During this show our students go around campus and find members of the BPCC community to interview and ask about their experiences with the college.

The Picture Show is a movie review show. Our student hosts go and screen the latest movies in theaters and come back to let us know if it’s worth the watch. This show airs on Fridays at 2:00 p.m.

Strategies for Living is hosted by local psychologist David McMillian where he provides tips on topics that effect our everyday lives. Strategies for Living airs on Mondays at 12:00 p.m.
