Coordinator for Marketing and Sports Operations

Charlie Cavell has an extensive background in public relations, media relations, marketing, advertising, athletics, sports writing and broadcasting across the state of Louisiana.

Cavell has been the “Voice of the Byrd Yellow Jackets,” serving as the radio play-by-play announcer for C.E. Byrd High School football games for 20 years, and for baseball the previous two seasons. He’s served in similar broadcasting capacities for numerous high schools, colleges and professional sports teams.

He has been a freelance writer for over 22 years and has written sports articles and columns for numerous publications across the state, including The Metro Leader, The Forum News, The Shreveport Times, Jerry Byrd’s Football Country Magazine and Louisiana Football Magazine.

Cavell has worked in the sports information departments at LSU, Nicholls State, University of Louisiana-Lafayette and Centenary College. He was the communications director for the Shreveport Captains, the AA affiliate of the San Francisco Giants, and was the media relations manager at Louisiana Downs. He was the media hospitality coordinator for the Independence Bowl in Shreveport, and is the media relations contact for the Landers Dodge Battle on the Border High School Football Showcase in Shreveport.

The 48-year-old Lafayette native is married to the former Deniece Habecker of Shreveport. They are the proud parents of five children – Ashlee Schuler, 20, Nathaniel Schuler, 19, Katelyn Cavell, 18, Jacob Cavell, 14, and Camille Cavell, 8.
