Inner-connection of scientific disciplines
Most of you have a general idea of the nature of science as a field of study where you learn volumes of seemingly unrelated facts, disconnected from your field of study. But science, as a whole, is a vast interconnected web of knowledge, understanding, and research. It has deep applications into the fields of the health sciences. Scientists, including chemists, research new areas of drug development, clinical treatment, and the biological functioning of the human body. Your understanding of chemistry can help your patients better understand new research development, how their medication with react with their body, and the use of non-invasive imaging techniques such as MRI, CAT scans, and PET scans.

Chemistry is deemed the Central Science because of its ability to explain at the level of atoms and molecules what occurs in many other scientific disciples. MRI is dominated by the behavior of the atom and its movement, something that well study in the structure of the atom and is based on a work-horse technique used by chemists called nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) used to determine the structure of molecules. New drugs are developed based on chemical reactions discovered by, optimized by, and applied by chemists. The pharmacology drugs are studied by medicinal chemists to determine the frequency and quantity needed in a dosage. With the push to develop new cancer treatments from research all-star teams, it is an exciting time to be participating in scientific investigations.
